The most dangerous phrase in leadership is "I don't mind."
In corporate environments, being "easy-going" is a badge of honour. We value the leaders who can pivot, adapt, and go with the flow.
But for the over-functioning professional, "I don't mind" is often a symptom of a deeper crisis.
When I ask my clients "What do you need?", their minds frequently go completely blank. Not because of a major trauma, but because of a million tiny erosions where they favoured external demands over their own internal essence.
Our organisms are designed for efficiency. If your internal preferences are overridden often enough, your system simply stops communicating them to you. You lose the cues. You lose the connection.
The result? You have everything on paper, yet you feel hollow.
This week's reflection:
Recall a recent moment when you said, "Whatever the others decide is fine."
Did you truly have no preference, or was your system just too tired to let you feel one?
